Marilyn Abildskov

Marilyn Abildskov was born in Syracuse, New York and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. She received a BS in journalism and political science from the University of Utah and an MFA from the University of Iowa's Nonfiction Writing Program. She is a professor of English at Saint Mary's College of California and teaches regularly at the Iowa Summer Writers Festival. The Men in My Country, her memoir set in Japan, was described by Kirkus Reviews as one of those travel stories that “reveals a heart as smitten with the place as the people." Booklist called it an "astonishing and brutally honest" portrait of travel and love. Her short stories and essays have appeared in AGNI, The Southern Review, Prairie Schooner, Story, The Sun, Black Warrior Review, Sewanee Review, and elsewhere. Her work has been anthologized in Best American Essays. She is the recipient of a Rona Jaffe Writers' Award as well as fellowships and honors from the Corporation of Yaddo, the Djerassi Residence Artists Program, and the Utah Arts Council.
